Hooli is a calendar and communication tool for elderly people. Aimed specifically towards people battling with dementia, it helps them give back their confidence through allowing control and understanding of their schedule.
DUX was responsible for designing an accessible and clear interface suitable for elderly in these circumstances. The interface exists in a tablet which is accessible to the elderly person and the caretaker. The caretaker can set up the daily schedule via the admin system.

From the user interviews we learned that elderly easily forget about daily activities if they’re not reminded regularly.
So caretakers spend a lot of time reminding elderly – in and out of their room – about these activities.
After defining the user flows, we moved on to creating wireframes for the management system where the caretakers set up the screens for the elderly.
The caretaker can set up a general calendar but also specifically per elderly. Every elderly screen can be personalised according to their own needs and limitations.
The interface for the elderly has one clear focus and it needs to communicate it very simply and effectively. Big letters and high contrast ensures readability. Icons – tested on the elderly – bring in additional context for understanding.
